ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - New Mexico State Police are looking for a man they say tried to abduct two children walking to a school bus stop in Valencia County Wednesday morning.
The man is accused of going after a 13-year-old and 14-year-old.
Police say the man came up to a boy walking to the bus stop on Hermosa Road in Rio Communities. The man allegedly told the teen he needed to come with him and then tried to grab him.
The boy escaped and ran home. His mother went back to the bus stop and she told police she saw the suspect trying to abduct a teenage girl.
"Keep an eye out for strange people in the neighborhoods, keep an eye out for kids," State Police Lt. Robert McDonald said. "Take them to a bus stop if you have to for a while to make sure this guy doesn't prey on somebody else."
The mother called 911, but police couldn't find the man.
The suspect is described as a heavyset Hispanic man wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and a red jacket with a white stripe.
Officers are now adding extra patrols to the streets of Rio Communities.
