ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque man returned to his home Thursday morning to find an intruder in his hallway watching his girlfriend sleep.
Kevin Roche got home around 6:30 a.m. and confronted the man. Neither he nor his girlfriend knew the man and that's when Roche took him out to the porch.
The suspect told Roche there was another man inside the house. Roche went back in, grabbed his gun and searched, but didn't find anybody else.
The suspect asked Roche if he could go back inside for the phone he left charging.
"I went in and sure enough, his phone was plugged in," said Roche. "You know and then we noticed a bag of chips on the table he had eaten, then he had used the bathroom, you know, and I was only gone for 40 minutes. So, I mean it's just weird."
Of course, Roche did not let the man back into the house and called police. The suspect walked away and was arrested a short time later at Richmond and Garfield.
In all, the man had stolen Roche's girlfriend's driver's license, credit cards and one dollar from her purse.
Both police and Roche said the man appeared to be on drugs.
"All in all, I don't think he really intended to harm anybody, he just was messed up," Roche said.
The suspect didn't force his way in, Roche said he accidentally left the door unlocked when he went to work. Roche and his girlfriend intend to press charges.
