ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man in Albuquerque Tuesday for impersonating a police officer and assault.

Deputies identified the man as Skyler Smith, 29.

According to the female victim, Smith was driving erratically in the area of Edith and Osuna around 4:15 Tuesday afternoon.

Eventually Deputies said the man caught up to the woman at a red light where he rolled down the window and started yelling at her.

"During that exchange he claimed that he was an APD Officer and he also told her that she better pull over or he was going to shoot her," White said.

The woman immediately called 911 and gave them a description of the vehicle, a brown Chevy pick up truck and a description of the man.

Sergeant White said the woman then followed him at a distance to keep the operator updated on his location.

"We were able to actually make contact with the vehicle and the driver," Sgt. White said.

Deputies arrested Smith for assault and impersonating a police officer, they say the victim in this case did everything right.

"She knew it didn't seem right, it wasn't appropriate obviously by the way that he was acting on top of everything, so she called 911 immediately," said Sgt. White.

Sergeant White told KRQE News 13 he does not believe Smith has done anything like this before.
