ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The Office of the Medical Investigator says 17-month old BreAndra Peña had evidence of drugs in her blood at the time of her death in March.

Results also show the baby girl from Española died from multiple blunt force injuries to the brain and abdomen.

Toxicology reports list evidence of marijuana and trace amounts of other drugs including cocaine in her bloodstream. Peña died while in the care of her godmother's boyfriend, 24-year old Nathan Montoya. He is charged with first degree child abuse resulting in death.

Montoya was watching Peña while his girlfriend was at work. Montoya initially claimed that the baby fell while taking a bath.  But he later admitted to picking her up by her ears, squeezing her head, shaking her by the head and slapping her in the face.

Montoya is jailed on a $1 million cash-only bond.

He has an extensive criminal history including a conviction of molesting a teenager a few years ago. He was also accused of bashing a man's head in with a golf club at a party.
