ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A license plate violation led to a major drug bust on Interstate 40 Saturday night.

State police arrested Errol Watson, 27, on charges of drug possession with intent to distribute.

Watson was driving a pickup on truck on I-40 west of Albuquerque, when a state police officer pulled him over for a license plate violation.

Inside the truck, officers found duffle bags filled with 79 pounds of marijuana. The street value of the drugs is more than $150,000.

Watson and his partner had conflicting stories about why they were traveling in New Mexico. The passenger was released.

Watson is in jail on a $2,500 bond.
