ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - One subject was shot and killed by police, a woman was arrested and the search continues for the third person who police say took off in what may be a black Chevy S-10 pickup.

Police say it all started when the woman tried to return some stolen merchandise to the Music Go Round store near Louisiana and Menaul around 6 o’clock Tuesday evening.

Officers were called to the scene and told that a black truck in the parking lot may also be involved.

When they approached the truck, the passenger took off on foot and the driver got away.

Police are still looking for the driver.

Meanwhile, the foot chase between an APD sergeant and the other subject went on top of buildings and even through traffic on Menaul.

Police say the person was also holding a handgun.

Once police air support and K-9 units got involved, they pinpointed where the subject was.

Police Chief Ray Schultz said the man turned towards officers with the gun in his hand and that's when they opened fire hitting him, he later died at the hospital.

Chief Schultz met with reporters late last night.

”This was a very unfortunate event but also a dangerous one considering the time and location...the fact that we had a subject armed and unafraid by law enforcement in anyway,” Chief Schultz said.

Investigators are still looking for the black 2-door Chevy S-10 pickup which was driven by the third person involved in Tuesday’s incident.

Police say the truck has damage to the rear bumper and has a turquoise New Mexico license plate.

The three officers who fired at the man are all on standard administrative leave.
