2 moms investigated for child abuse

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Two separate moms are in jail Sunday accused of ignoring their kids' serious injuries.

Robin Colon, 25, is accused of failing to take her 1-year-old son to the hospital.

Police found the mom and her two young sons Thursday near Central and Wyoming.

They say the 1-year-old boy's finger was so badly injured it looked like it was about to fall off.

The boy's finger had been smashed by a door days before.

His mother allegedly told police she thought the boy was fine.

In another case, sheriff's deputies were called to UNM Hospital Saturday, where a 7-month-old baby was undergoing treatment for a fractured skull.

Investigators say the baby's mom, 26-year-old Alma Ortega, dropped the baby the day before but failed to take the baby to see a doctor, even though he showed obvious signs of injury.

Both moms are charged with child abuse.
