ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A northwest New Mexico man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for second-degree murder. The U.S. Attorney in Albuquerque says 36-year-old Darnell Begay was sentenced Monday. Begay and his 35-year-old cousin Tyrus Begaye each pleaded guilty to killing Peyton Hogue on Feb. 6, 2010, in Burnham, a small community on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico.
Navajo Nation police officers found Hogue's body near Darnell Begay's home. He had been severely beaten.
The cousins turned themselves in to Navajo Nation police in Shiprock.
Earlier, Tyrus Begaye was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
