Police on hunt for suspected shooter

SANTA FE (KRQE) - A teenager is dead and a woman is in the hospital after a double shooting Monday afternoon in a Santa Fe neighborhood and the suspected gunman is still on the loose.

Police are looking for Arthur Anaya, 54, who they said he is the prime suspect in the shootings.

Monday afternoon Deputies got a shots fired call at a house at 22 Paseo Galisteo which is just south of St. Francis and I-25.

Late Monday night investigators told News 13 Anaya is the victims’ landlord and that some sort of dispute inside their mobile home ended in gunfire.

When deputies arrived, they found the teenage boy dead inside a mobile home on the property.

The woman was taken to the hospital by a relative.

Major Ken Johnson with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said they are still trying to figure out the relationship between the two victims, but he said they do know the woman is not the teen’s mom.

Detectives were waiting for a warrant to search the large property, hoping to find evidence and answers late Monday.

In the meantime neighbors said they’re feeling a little uneasy knowing a killer maybe nearby.

“I’m not going down there till they catch him,” Richard Wall said.

The victims’ names have not been released yet.

News 13 has learned that the Arthur Anaya police are looking for is the same Arthur Anaya who was found guilty but mentally ill of more than a dozen violent crimes in a 1994 case.

A corrections department official testified in 2005 that Anaya suffered a serious head injury in 1992 that caused him to have problems with judgment and impulsiveness.

Investigators said there have been sightings in of Anaya in Santa Fe, but Albuquerque has been alerted to look out for him too.
