ALBUQUERQUE - A late-afternoon crash in the exit lanes of Interstate 40 has snarled westbound traffic trying to get to Coors Boulevard.
The crash happened about 3:45 p.m. when a 21-year-old man slammed his Chevrolet Impala head-on into the barrier separate the through and exit lanes.
The man's name has not been released, but Albuquerque police said he suffered critical injuries including a broken neck.
An earlier statement from police said the man was 53.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
At last report only one lane was closed, and traffic was moving smoothly but slowly through the area.
