Sandy causes widespread flight cancellations

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The effects of Sandy are stretching across the country, leaving thousands stranded as flights in and out of the East Coast have been canceled.

More than 7,000 flights are canceled Monday which is impacting hundreds of travelers at Albuquerque’s Sunport.

So far Sandy has canceled three flights at the Sunport, two Southwest flights en route to Baltimore and one United Airlines flight to DC.

The good news at Sunport at least, is that other flights have not been canceled due to any ripple-effects of the scheduling.

The spokesman for the Sunport says airlines have had a few days to plan for the storm and ensure no one was stranded at the airport.

Still it is a good idea to call ahead before you head to the Sunport.

”Call your airline…call your airline directly and check the status of your flight. They will know exactly what the status of it is and that will tell them if they should even come here to make their connecting flight to their connecting city,” Sunport spokesperson Dan Jiron said.

As of now the Sunport is expecting the same amount of cancellations Tuesday.
