ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - Sandoval County is getting a $5 million federal grant to improve Torreon Road, which is a key route to Cuba and Albuquerque from the Navajo Nation.
Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., announced the funding. He says the road that connects the Navajo Nation to schools, hospitals and jobs is currently unsafe.
Udall says the money will allow Sandoval County to eliminate unpaved areas and large potholes and improve signage and drainage.
Torreon Road serves the Navajo Nation Chapters of Torreon, Encino, Whitehorse Lake and Counselor.
