ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque police officer was involved in a crash late Wednesday night after seeing a Mustang race through a red light. Turns out the driver of that car was rushing her dog to the hospital.
Just before midnight an officer was near Montgomery and Tramway looking for drunks drivers. He witnessed the car run the red light through the intersection and began to pursue the vehicle, turning on his lights and sirens to proceed through the red light. That’s when he ran into another vehicle.
Both the officer and driver of that car are OK.
The driver of the Mustang was subsequently pulled over where officers discovered that the woman was taking their dog, who had just been hit by a car, to the pet hospital. Officers allowed the woman to proceed.
An earlier report indicated that the driver was under investigation for DWI, but that was incorrect.
