Loose buck causes tizzy in SE ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Animal Control and New Mexico Game and Fish captured a deer on the loose in a southeast Albuquerque neighborhood.

The 2-year-old buck was first spotted dashing in and out of traffic near Eubank and Central around 7:30 a.m.

After about two hours NM Game in Fish along with Animal Control were able to corner, tranquilize and capture the young buck.

When Animal Control first responded to the scene, the buck jumped into a fenced area where crews tried capturing him with a snare pole.  After that was unsuccessful they called in NM Game and Fish.

One of the Game and Fish officers finally tranquilized the deer, immobilizing it so it’d be safe to transport.

The loose deer drew quite the crowd of onlookers.  It’s not too often you see a four point buck darting through traffic.

Game and Fish officials say the deer was injured.  It had apparently lost a toe and officials believe the deer may have thought it was safer to come into the city as opposed to staying in the mountains.

Officials say they have doctored the deer’s foot and released it at a wildlife reservation west of the Sandias.
