ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The suspect involved in a high-speed chase Friday morning has been taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges including aggravated assault and DWI.

Just after 9 a.m. a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputy observed 25-year-old Lawrence Gonzales driving a silver Dodge station wagon recklessly near Griegos and Rio Grande.

When the deputy turned his car around to pursue Gonzales, the suspect began speeding through a construction zone in the area and nearly hit crews working on the site.

APD joined the pursuit of the suspect who hit another vehicle near I-40 and 6th street.

A spike belt was used to deflate the suspect’s tires near Atrisco and Western Trail and Gonzales was finally stopped and taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. near Unser and Western Trail.

Gonzales is currently facing several charges including aggravated eluding, assault and DWI.

The driver of the car hit near 6th street was not hurt in the accident.
