ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The Rail Runner says train service will be back up and running on its full schedule Saturday, weather permitting, after heavy rains flooded a railroad bridge on the Santo Domingo Pueblo.
Crews have been working hard to fix the damage since.
Right now the big key is stabilization, making sure it’s safe for trains to cross.
On Friday, Santa Fe-to-Albuquerque passengers didn’t have the option of taking the train or the bus, a problem the Rail Runner says affected about 1,600 passengers.
“The problem is they need to run their operations today, and with 1,600 people it would take about 40 buses to get all those people," Rail Runner Express spokesperson Augusta Meyers told KRQE News 13. "So the contingency plan would be to have an extra 40 buses, and that's probably not a realistic plan for any transit system."
Santo Domingo Pueblo Gov.r Sisto Quintana toured the bridge area and said his tribe will provide anything crews need to get this train running safely again.
Rail Runner officials say anyone who bought advanced tickets for Friday will be reimbursed.
