ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - A fired Albuquerque officer accused of lying about his involvement in a case with a fellow officer charged with murdering his wife may be getting his job back.
The Albuquerque Journal reports ( http://bit.ly/ADBDhv ) that a hearing officer said Monday in a 19-page opinion that there was no evidence to fire former officer Russell Perea.
Perea was fired last year for violating operating procedures after former officer Levi Chavez was indicted for the October 2007 death of his wife, Tera Chavez. The 26-year-old woman was found dead of a gunshot wound from her husband's service revolver in the couple's Los Lunas home. Perea shared a car with Chavez that evening.
The city personnel board has final say over whether Perea gets his job back.
