ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - Federal officials have wrapped up training with New Mexico law enforcement officers on identifying counterfeit goods and fighting the criminal groups that traffic them.
Officials with the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center gave training Thursday to officers from around New Mexico at the Albuquerque offices of Homeland Security Investigations. Representatives from Louis Vuitton also were on hand to show officers how to identify counterfeit goods.
A similar training finished this week in El Paso.
The move comes as Homeland Security Investigations is set to launch an anti-fraud unit aimed at battling counterfeit producing organizations in New Mexico.
Officials say some of the counterfeit goods are linked to terrorist groups and Mexican drug cartels.
