ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Officials are trying to locate a dog that was shot after attacking a smaller dog, almost attacking an officer and then running off.
Albuquerque police were dispatched to a home on Edith Boulevard Friday afternoon in reference to a dog being attacked by two large dogs. When the officer arrived at the home he saw a smaller dog being attacked by two aggressive larger dogs.
APD officials say the officer was unable to stop the attack through physical means and was then turned on by one of those dogs, which forced him to fire his weapon in self defense. That dog, having sustained a gun shot wound, ran from the scene.
Officers are attempting to locate that dog.
Animal Control officer are currently investigating the scene in order to determine how the attack occurred and who owned the attacking dogs.
Earlier reports mistakenly stated that the dog had been killed.
