ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - After a 36 hour closure due to dangerous driving conditions, I-40 has finally reopened in the metro area.
Crews closed eastbound lanes of I-40 Sunday night due to the winter storm making it's way through the state.
While the conditions on the interstate cleared up late Monday, Texas officials asked that the state extend the closure due to dangerous driving conditions on their side of the road.
I-40 is still icy and snow-covered in Texas and into Oklahoma, so drivers traveling in that direction should use caution.
I-40 in Texas will be re-opened in stages and is currently still closed from Amarillo to the Oklahoma state line.
