ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque shoe company is making great strides in helping in the Haitian relief effort, helping to collect shoes to send to the earthquake-ravaged country.
Z-Coil Footwear has joined the Soles4Souls shoe charity, which hopes to collect a million pairs of shoes for Haiti.
The charity asks that the shows be "gently worn" or new.
Participants can drop off shoes at the Z-Coil store at 6932 Fourth St. NW in Albuquerque.
"This economy has been hard for everybody," said store manager Lucia Gallegos. "But this is a way for people to donate without having to reaching into their pocketbooks."
Silvana Clark and her husband work full-time, traveling the nation to collect for the Soles4Souls shoe charity.
During a stop at the Z-Coil store in Albuquerque, Silvana Clark said the charity has already collected 500,000 pairs of shoes for the Haiti relief effort.
"It's been going great. The staff here said they came in at seven in the morning, and there were shoes already stacked outside the front door before they even got here," Clark said.
Gallegos says the Albuquerque store will continue the collection effort as long as the public keeps donating.
As an incentive, Z-Coil is offering a $10 gift certificate for those who donate.
