ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A fallen telephone pole blocked a major South Valley street for about two hours Wednesday, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.

A truck struck the telephone pole at Bridge Boulevard SW and Pear about 11 a.m. toppling it into the street pulling down wires as it went. Deputies blocked Bridge at Atrisco on the west and Goff on the east and are encouraging motorists to avoid the area, a sheriff's spokesman told KRQE News 13.

A crew from Qwest removed the pole and wires from the street, which was then reopened.

No injuries or additional damage were reported, and it was not immediately known how phone service in the area might have been affected..
