ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - After closing on Monday and Tuesday for budget reasons the New Mexico State Fair has cut all gate admissions this Wednesday to $2, fair officials announced.

In addition on the midway Murphy Brothers Carnival will be discounting game coupons, single rides and some concessions to $2. Elsewhere on the fairgrounds vendors and concessionaires may also be offering special pricing, according to the Monday announcement.

Wednesdays are typically one of the slower days during the two-week run of the fair that ends on Sept. 26.

"We realize that closing on Mondays and Tuesdays may be a little disappointing to some of our vendors and a few others, but it was the fiscally responsible thing to do," fair General Manager Craig Swagerty said in the announcement. "So we thought offering something along the lines of the Dollar Days the fair used to offer might go a long way toward making them happy while giving everyone a chance to enjoy the fair at a whopping discount."

Children 5 and under will still be admitted for free, and parking at the fairgrounds will still be $7. The fair opens at 10 a.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
