ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Pivot VFX a visual effects company has opened it's doors in downtown Albuquerque with the goal of hiring 100 people.

The company fills the hole left by Sony Imageworks which closed up shop in New Mexico earlier in the year. CEO Eric Wilson was a sequence supervisor at Sony and saw a need.

"There was a large number of senior talent that was already here and had bought houses and they really love New Mexico so we decided to form our own company and make a go of it." says Wilson

Pivot VFX creates visual effects for movies, video games, simulators and is even creating it's own animated short films.

Wilson says his goal is to continue creating original content and become the next Pixar.

There are currently 12 employees at Pivot VFX and the company is working to grow to 100 employees. Some of those working there now are interns who are studying visual effects at UNM. Wilson and one of his partners teach there.
