SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Ruidoso Downs is asking a state regulator to allow the horse
racing track to move to Las Cruces.
Ruidoso Downs General Manager Ann McGovern said Monday the
track and its casino is losing money because of competition from
Indian casinos.
Racing Commission Executive Director Julian Luna said there's
no timetable yet for deciding the proposed relocation.
McGovern said the track will seek a tax break from the
Legislature next year and the track will stay in Ruidoso if the
measure is enacted. The relocation is being proposed to the state
Racing Commission so the move to Las Cruces could occur if the tax
legislation fails.
The track is the home of the All American Futurity, the
richest event in quarter horse racing.
