LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) - Los Alamos National Laboratory has chosen a Texas-based small business to do up to $100 million in waste transportation and disposal work.

TerranearPMC LLC, which has a Los Alamos office, will haul demolition debris and soil from lab cleanup projects.

The company will transport material in metal bins with waterproof covers.

Uncontaminated rubble will go to an industrial landfill, while material that tests positive for radioactive residue will go to a licensed facility in Utah.

Project officials estimate cleanup using federal stimulus funds will generate about 50,000 cubic yards of rubble from demolished buildings and soil excavated from the lab's World War II-era landfill.

The lab says that's enough to fill a football field to a depth of about 25 feet.
