ALBUQUERQUE (AP - The company developing a scientific ghost town in eastern New Mexico says ground breaking is being pushed back because of delays in finalizing the purchase of land.
Pegasus Global Holdings told the Albuquerque Journal that it likely won't be able to start building the Center for Innovation, Testing and Evaluation until August or September, rather than the end of June as originally hoped.
Robert Brumley, managing director of the project, says regulations governing the sale of public lands are delaying the closing on the parcel of about 15 square miles of land near the Texas border.
The $1 billion city without residents is being developed to help researchers test everything from intelligent traffic systems and next-generation wireless networks to automated washing machines and self-flushing toilets.
