GRANTS, N.M. (KRQE) - Construction work will closed westbound Interstate 40 near Grants for parts of two nights rerouting all traffic except big rigs and other tall vehicles to a state highway.
During the work a message board will be installed over the westbound lanes at mile marker 91about 6 miles east of Grants.
The closures are expected to begin at 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and last about two hours.
During the project traffic will be rerouted to State Road 124 also known as Historic Old Route 66. However a height restriction of 13 feet 6 inches on SR 124 will keep commercial and other vehicles at or above that limit will be stopped until the freeway reopens.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation plans to activate message boards on I-40 in Albuquerque warning of the closure. It also is advising motorists that food and restroom facilities will be available at exits 108 and 102 east of the closure.
