SANTA FE (KRQE) - Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M., launched his latest initiative to encourage New Mexicans to shop locally, naming the project "25 Dollars 2 Main Street."

The campaign encourages shoppers to spend at least $25 at two locally owned businesses.

The governor said you might as well spend your holiday cash at your favorite local shops.

"We have a budget shortfall you've probably heard of it. This is a way we can pump tax money, gross receipts funds into the state and at the same time make a difference and help our local businesses," Richardson said.

Richardson made the announcement in Nob Hill during the annual shop and stroll Thursday night.
