SANTA FE (AP) - The summer tourism buzz in Santa Fe is starting to feel a bit like old times as the industry has returned to pre-recession levels.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports ( http://bit.ly/NvCyoJ ) that some 2,300 employees were added to the tourism and hospitality industry statewide in May, with 1,300 of those in Santa Fe alone. That's an increase of almost 15 percent from last year.
The addition brings to 10,000 the number of workers employed in the sector in Santa Fe County.
Lee Reynis, director of The University of New Mexico's Bureau of Business and Economic Research, looked at gross receipts tax numbers for Santa Fe and says that the overall growth looks stronger than the rest of the state.
Leaders in the industry say they anticipate a successful summer season.
