ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - New Mexico is expected to get 22,000 new jobs as a result of the federal stimulus package that President Barack Obama is scheduled to sign in Denver early Tuesday afternoon.

The state ranks 11th of the 50 states in the number of jobs created relative to the state's population.

The largest group of new jobs will be in construction with new roads and buildings set to be built.

Gov. Bill Richardson said energy and technology industries will also benefit, as will the state's Medicaid program.

"We're going to get, hopefully, no education cuts because of the federal funds coming into education," he said.

Officials hope the new workers will begin spending right away, creating new jobs in retail and hospitality in the months to come.
