'The Dry Land' begins filming in NM

SANTA FE (AP) - A film starring America Ferrera has started shooting in New Mexico.

The governor's office says "The Dry Land," written and directed by Ryan Piers Williams, is filming throughout central New Mexico through May 24. At least 30 local crew members and more than 70 background talent will be hired for the project.

Ferrera, the star of ABC's "Ugly Betty," also is an executive producer of the film along with Sergio Aguero.

"The Dry Land" follows a young man as he returns home from a tour of duty. Despite the support of his wife and his mother, he is unable to settle back into his small town life and decides to travel the country with an Army buddy in search of redemption.

The film is being financed by Maya Entertainment.
