ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police shut down 2nd Street at Ranchitos and placed two nearby schools on lockdown after they say a man attempted to set his house on fire.
Police say deputies were called out to a home under a Mental Evaluation Pick Up order. Due to safety concerns crews locked down the area while deputies attempted to execute that order.
Officials with the Bernalillo County Fire Department say the man tried to burn his house down, but he was not successful.
Around 12:30 p.m. the man surrendered peacefully to officers.
For a short time 2nd Street was closed in both directions at Ranchitos and Los Ranchos Elementary, North Valley Academy Charter and Taylor Middle School were placed on lockdown.
The street has since been opened and the lockdowns have since been lifted.
