BCSO: Teen shot in the back of the head

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Investigators tell News 13 the teen found naked in a ditch Friday was shot in the back of the head.

Amanda Wiley was just 18-years-old, her classmates say she was a nice girl but troubled.

“I didn’t really think it was her until they pulled up a picture of her and then I was just like, she was there and now she’s gone its weird,” said one of Wiley’s classmates.

Students at Los Puentes Charter School in the North Valley were shocked to find out their classmate was the young woman found naked and floating in a ditch a couple blocks from Edith and Osuna on Friday.

A student News 13 spoke with asked us not to identify her.

“She never really got to live life ya know so it’s kind of, that’s not right for anyone,” the student said.

The school’s principal said Wiley was a student there off and on.

Los Puentes serves at risk youth with emotional or behavioral problems.

“She did have a lot of problems like she said but she was a really nice girl,” said the student.

Before her death Wiley vented her frustrations on Facebook, even threatening suicide.

However, Sergeant Mark Kmatz with the sheriff’s department said Wiley did not kill herself, adding that she was shot in the back of the head.

News 13 has learned Wiley’s body was dumped into the ditch about a half-mile north from where she was found Friday morning.

Investigators believe Wiley was killed the night before.

“It was around midnight I would say, there was a gunshot and you could just hear like the water, dogs barking,” said Claudia Castillo a neighbor who lives in the area.

BCSO tells News 13 now, that what those neighbors heard was most likely the shot that killed Wiley but who pulled the trigger and why is still a mystery.

Even though Wiley was found naked investigators said there were no obvious signs of sexual assault found during the initial autopsy but they plan to do more tests just to be sure.

Investigators said they are getting a lot of tips, but at this point we’re told there is no motive and no suspects.
