RIO RANCHO (KRQE) - A Rio Rancho man’s aggravated battery charges are upgraded to murder after police said the victim, his 61-year-old father, died.
In the early morning hours of March 2, police were called out to the 4500 block of Sprint Boulevard in Rio Rancho in reference to a beating.
When police arrived they found Sam Largo Sr., 61, unconscious on the rear porch of his apartment. Police said witnesses told them Largo’s son Sebastian, 27, beat him so severely the man fell into a coma and never wok e up.
Sebastian Largo was arrested hours later and charged with aggravated battery. The next day Sam Sr. was taken off life support and died.
The Office of the Medical Investigator told police Sam Sr. died from blunt force trauma and ruled his death a homicide.
Largo who was still in custody was then charged with murder. His troubles do not end there.
Police said Largo also hit his older brother in the mouth, breaking his jaw. Police said he also faces battery charges for that incident.
According to court records this is not the first time Largo has faced charges of this nature.
“He was convicted of conspiracy to commit aggravated battery in Albuquerque in 2006,” Rio Rancho Police Department Spokesperson John Francis said.
Largo’s brother had to wire his mouth shut until the break heals.
Police say they are still trying to find out why the alleged beating occurred.
