NEW YORK - Before you know it, we'll be heading into the holiday shopping season, which traditionally begins the day after Thanksgiving, dubbed Black Friday. And news about this year's Black Friday shopping deals is already leaking out.
According to WalletPop , some of the biggest deals this recession year will be on TVs, videos, toys and home decor. Stores will focus on categories that appeal to the economically-minded consumer, so early-morning doorbuster deals will likely provide the best discounts.
In October Walmart announced it would expand $10 price deals to 100 toys , which will include popular items like Barbie dolls. The move is intended to directly compete with Toys 'R' Us, which has started opening 350 temporary locations around the country in preparation for the holiday season. Toys 'R' Us has already posted its big toy book ad offering deals on Bakugan, Lego, LeapFrog, Fisher-Price toys and more.
Walmart also promises doorbuster deals , which will include LCD and plasma TVs -- a Samsung 40-inch 1080p LCD will be on sale for $798, down from $898.
Sears started its Black Friday deals last Saturday and will continue to offer deals every Saturday until Christmas. Among the deals offered this past weekend -- 50 percent off Craftsman tool sets, 70 percent off diamond stud earrings and over 40 percent off elliptical exercise machines. On Nov. 7, Sears will offer the 42" Xenith plasma TV for $499, which is regularly $649.99.
Black Friday sales have already started online. Amazon is selling women's shoes for up to half off . Blu-ray DVD titles are also being sold for up to 40 percent off.
If you're looking for a unique opportunity this shopping season, Best Buy is running a contest called the Best Buy VIP . Entrants must submit a statement as to what they are most excited about this Black Friday for a chance to win a $1,000 Best Buy gift card, VIP treatment, early entry into a Best Buy store on Black Friday morning and an Insignia digital camcorder.
As Black Friday sales are announced, they will be posted on TheBlackFriday.com .
