ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Richard Hunsucker is trying to make a difference, one mile at a time. His cause, raising awareness and money for disabled veterans. Hunsucker is passing through Albuquerque on Friday in his trek across America.

The journey has brought in nearly half a million dollars so far according to Hunsucker. All of the proceeds are going to the organization of Disabled American Veterans.

The walk began in Jacksonville, Florida and will take him across the country to San Diego, California. Staring out on Veterans Day on November 11, 2009, Hunsucker expects his journey will end in California this Memorial Day on May 31.

Hunsucker is himself a veteran, from 1974 to 1976, but never served in war time. He says his whole inspiration for the walk came from his buddies and God.

"We've got a lot of causes in our country here," says Hunsucker. "but the number one cause has to be our disabled veterans because they provide us the freedoms to have all our many other causes."

Blogs from the road and anyone wanting to make donations to Hunsucker's cause can check out his website at www.vetwalking.org .
