HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. - Holloman Air Force Base near Alamogordo is cutting an estimated 250 jobs next year when the base loses its F-22 Raptor fighters.
The detachment of the 44th Fighter Group and its fleet of F-22s are moving to Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Fla.
The detachment is an Air Force Reserve unit that will support a new F-22 combat squadron at Tyndall in the spring of 2013.
The cuts are part of a consolidation effort to stop buying the costly planes in favor of the new F-35 Lightning fighter.
