ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A groundbreaking Thursday began work on a park that honors two New Mexicans from the same Albuquerque neighborhood killed in combat during the Vietnam War.
The park on the grounds of the National Hispanic Cultural center will be named after Marine Sgt. Pete Padilla and Pfc. Manuel Mora.
The pair was honored with another park in the same area in the 1970s, but it was demolished when the cultural center was put in.
Both men grew up in the Barelas neighborhood where the center sits.
