Chief Petty Officer Orlando Suazo has been away for 6 1/2 months but couldn't go home Friday without first stopping at his son's elementary school.
Suazo and his wife, Sarra, have been planning the surprise for months. Their son Isaiah is a kindergartner at Petroglyph Elementary on Albuquerque's West Side.
Suazo admitted he was all knotted up before he saw his son. When he walked into the library, Isaiah didn't quite know what to do, but lots of hugs and kisses had the little boy smiling from ear to ear.
Suazo says his daughter Aria has grown and her vocabulary expanded massively.
Suazo maintains helicopters for a squadron based out of San Diego and has been deployed six times including some time in Panama helping control drug trafficking.
Isaiah knows very well what his daddy does and told reporters, "He's on the boat, and he's fighting the bad guys."
One of the first things on the to-do list for Isaiah is to go sledding. Lucky for him, we just got snow.
