ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Relatives of a Santa Fe soldier who will receive the Medal of Honor say despite his wounds, Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Petry never felt sorry for himself.
Petry, 31, grabbed a grenade thrown by Afghan insurgents saving his buddies' lives but blowing off his hand when it exploded.
He was also shot in both legs.
Doctors told him he might never walk again, but he proved everyone wrong. He's now walking again and has become an avid golfer.
President Obama will present the medal to Petry at the White House next month.
