ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Air Force decertified the 898th munitions squadron which oversees an estimated 2,000 nuclear warheads stored in a huge underground facility on Kirtland Air Force Base.
The unit flunked a key inspection last November and was scheduled for a re-inspection this month.
Unfortunately, that inspection has been postponed and the 898th has been stripped of its nuclear responsibilities.
The Air Force is not saying problem is, but did say that all the warheads are accounted for and there is no risk to security, safety or health.
