ABQ soldier killed in Afghanistan

ZABUL PROVINCE, Afghanistan (KRQE) – An Albuquerque soldier was killed Tuesday when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

Pfc. Zachary G. Lovejoy, 20, of Albuquerque and Capt. Daniel Whitten, 28, of Grimes, Iowa were killed Tuesday in the Zabul province of Afghanistan.

The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, in Fort Bragg, N.C.

According to Lovejoy's MySpace page, he was a 2008 graduate of La Cueva High School and was engaged.

Lovejoy's parents are on their way to Norfolk, Va., to pick up his body. French Mortuary is handling funeral services.
