Thousands coming to Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The thousands upon thousands of tourists will begin pouring into Albuquerque Monday. It's the first day that 3,500 camping lots will be available at Balloon Fiesta Park; five days before the first mass ascension.

Reservations ran out about a month ago for the RV spots and will not be available again until the second weekend of Balloon Fiesta.

"With the event just days away, we had to close down registration so that officially closed down on sunday," said Balloon Fiesta Spokesperson Tom Garrity.

Garrity is expecting almost 100 RVs to be moved in by the end of Monday. He says Friday is the busiest move-in day with more than 800 expected to squeeze into the park.

Campers will be coming from different states and even different countries.

The campgrounds at Balloon Fiesta aren't the only place campers are looking at staying. The Bernalillo campgrounds have a 99 percent occupancy during the Fiesta.

Balloon Fiesta begins next Saturday with an early morning mass ascension.
