Balloon Glow dazzles

Wind gusts threaten show

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It was a close call for the Balloon Fiesta's Saturday 'Balloon Glow'.

Many of the visitors who were there were nervous about the wind gusts, thinking they could blow the balloons around too violently.

In the end, the weather calmed down. The weather concerns forced Fiesta officials to push back the Balloon Glow for about 45-minutes. They asked Fiesta pilots to inflate at their own discretion.

Many of them did after the wind calmed around sunset, allowing the tens of thousands of visitors to witness the night-time glow.

Visitors from out-of-state said they were glad they got to see the show, especially because the events Friday, including the Mass Ascension and night-time Balloon Glow, had to be canceled because of rain and wind.

Events have been canceled on three of the Fiesta's nine days this year.
