ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Tingley Beach is supporting Earth Day with a new program to recycle monofilament - or fishing line.
Fishing line can last up to 600 years in the environment and when not disposed of correctly, can cause damage to wildlife.
Tingley Beach is providing 10 fishing line recycling bins around its three fishing ponds for angler's convenience. Fishermen and women from all over the state are encouraged to bring their line in to recycle it.
The used line is sent to the Berkley Conservation Institute and turned into non-degradable, fish habitat structures that are completely safe in the aquatic environment.
