Thanksgiving travel steady at Sunport

ALBUQURQUE (KRQE) - Holiday travelers are on the road and in the sky Wednesday getting ready for Thanksgiving.
    
Travelers in Albuquerque Wednesday morning seem to be in good spirits. That could be because the wait to get through security lines has not been that long so far.

Nationwide the Thanksgiving holiday is one of the busiest days of travel for hub airports.
    
Sunport officials say this year they're seeing slightly less passengers than last year.
    
The busiest travel days of the year here at the Sunport fall around Balloon fiesta and New Year’s Day.
    
There have been some weather delays Wednesday but officials say no more than usual.
    
For the most part, the weather nationally seems to be cooperating so far, which is making for high spirits for travelers here in Albuquerque.

“I’ve traveled during holidays in the morning time and I have experienced some lines and stuff but I was very pleased,” Melissa Makous said.

Others agreed.

“Usually I know Thanksgiving traffic is supposed to be worst of the year but it wasn't, maybe it'll get bad this afternoon,” Jaclyn Brady said.
    
Sunport officials say on normal travel days they see between 11,000 and 16,000 passengers coming and going.
    
They expect 18,000 to 20,000 passengers Wednesday.
    
A noticeable increase so it's still a good idea to get here a little earlier if you can.
    
Some travelers in the country are still having troubles from Hurricane Sandy with the loss of rental cars and some airport closings.
    
However, Sunport officials say that really has not impacted travelers here.
