ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The Albuquerque Rescue Mission along with Noon Day Ministries, Joy Junction and the Good Samaritans collaborated on an almost week long way to provide food to the homeless.
Monetary donations are still low for the year and turkey donations were half of what it was last year at this time. It's because of that, there was some initial concern that Albuquerque Rescue Mission would not have enough turkeys this year, but recent collections from local churches saved the event this year.
"It's an exciting time of year because giving is generally up," says Teresa Fleming, Development Director of the Albuquerque Rescue Mission. "Volunteers are up this time of year so it's the holiday spirit we're starting to see..."
Officials at the Albuquerque Rescue Mission are expecting about a thousand people to eat lunch in their dining room on Tuesday morning.
All of the other missions say they still need a lot of donations, both in food and money to get them through the rest of the holiday season.
