Sunport sees delays during holiday travel

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It's a busy time for traveling with the holidays coming up and winter storms in the Midwest have made it even more of a nightmare for some travelers coming in and out of the Sunport Saturday afternoon.

Sunport Arrivals/Departures

The good news is things seem to be easing up as it gets later Saturday evening.

At about 2:30 Saturday afternoon, nine flights out of the Sunport were delayed.

Most of those were behind by at least 45 minutes and there were even more delays coming into Albuquerque.

A lot of them were flights to and from the Chicago area.

It was one of many cities in the Midwest pounded with snow this week.

At the Sunport, you can clearly tell the holidays are here, there were long lines and lots of happy family reunions.

KRQE News 13 spoke with one family who flew in to Albuquerque from Atlanta.

They say it was a tough day, with weather delays also pushing back airplane inspections.

"The hassle at the Atlanta airport was tremendous,” Ann Desmond said. “We had to deplane, re-plane sit on the plane for a long long long time and now we're finally here four hours later and they've lost our luggage."

Of course, that luggage had all her Christmas gifts in it so she's a little nervous, but she says she should be getting it Sunday morning.

Flightstats.com shows more than 160 flights have been canceled nationally Saturday and more than 6,800 were delayed.
