Albuquerque, N.M. (KRQE) - Family members of 36 year old Matt Trujillo say he planned to propose to his girlfriend this weekend. Instead they're planning his funeral.
May 12, 9:30 AM police say 20 year old Memori Hardwick ran a red light at Indian School and Washington, crashing into Trujillo. He was in a coma for two weeks, but passed away Thursday night.
District Attorney Kari Brandenburg says she's waiting for toxicology reports before charging Hardwick. But police arrested Hardwick Friday because she failed to show up to court May 20th on previous charges of possessing Meth. Court records also show Hardwick was charged with prostitution in 2009.
News 13 asked the D.A. if she believes Hardwick may have been on meth at the time of the crash. "I don't want to speculate, but obviously for toxicology to be sent to the state lab - there's some concern about that," said Brandenburg.
Meantime Trujillo's brother says the family doesn't want the focus to be on Hardwick, but on Matt and bicycle safety. "You never know when someone is going to be taken away from you, so just be really careful out there," said Josh Trujillo.
